Safety Issues
We all hope that this Nairnshire Challenge will be blessed with the sunny and warm weather we had in 1998, but we also remember that the first Challenge in 1997 took place in thick mist and torrential rain. Be prepared for the worst. It may be rainy, wet and cold and the route is long and at times remote and exposed.
We strongly recommend that you take waterproof clothing and an extra sweater. |
We also recommend strong walking boots for the walkers and strollers as the foot section takes you over rough and stony Land Rover tracks. |
Although some food and water will be available at watering stations, you should take your own supplies with you if possible. |
Be aware of the risk of a long day's exposure to the sun! |
Cycle helmets must be worn on the cycle section. |
Drop-outs
While you are entered in a team, each Challenger is an individual. You don’t have to finish for fellow team members to receive their medals if they finish.
Don’t carry on if you are exhausted. There’s always next year. If for any reason you are unable to finish it is essential that you inform an official so that you are not considered missing and become the subject of an unnecessary search.
If you are unwell or in difficulty for any reason, please don’t leave the route. There is a sweep team, which travels the whole route on foot and cycle behind the Challengers. If you stay on the route, the sweep team will catch up with you and assist you if necessary.
